Chapter 22 Summary: “Why Not Now?: Matt”

Content Warning: This section of the guide includes discussion of sexual content and substance use.

Matt spends the weekend decorating and furnishing his apartment in anticipation of seeing Grace again. At work on Monday, he tells Scott he wants to work from home from now on; it’s too difficult to be around Liz in light of what she did. Scott agrees. Later, Liz confronts Matt when he’s packing up his desk. He accuses her of meddling in his life and ruining his and Grace’s relationship. Liz admits she intervened, but insists Grace had no right to pursue him after they were married. Furious, Matt storms out. Outside, he lets the nice weather wash over him.

The next day, Grace and Matt meet at Senior House and take a walk in the park. They go back to Matt’s place for some wine. Grace studies his photographs, compliments his work, and asks about his career. Grace starts crying, admitting she wants a second chance. They hug, put on some music, smoke marijuana, dance, and share some food. Grace suggests they play the taste-guessing game. On Grace’s turn, she puts her Nutella-covered finger in Matt’s mouth. The two kiss until Grace pulls away, insisting she has to get home.
